Almost exactly a year after the design contest was launched in Dhaka Bangladesh, the Rick’chair and Khatiya Table that resulted of it were officially presented to the press on July 10th 2017, within the brand new French-German Embassy in Dhaka.
Just as a reminder, these two beautiful pieces of furniture were imagined by the contest 8 laureates, along with design Studio Katra and the Jute Lab during a week-long design workshop held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, past November, then prototyped out of jute fiber composite material by the Jute Lab team in Concarneau, France, to finally be sent back to Bangladesh last month.
The French ambassador, Sophie Aubert, the German ambassador, Thomas Prinz, and the Minister of Cultural Affairs, Asaduzzaman Noor, were among the event guests and warmly acclaimed the results of this beautiful international project co-organized bye Alliance Française de Dhaka, Goethe-Institut Bangladesh, OTOBI Limited and CPHD- Citizens Programme for Human Development. The eight participants and representatives from universities involved into the project were also invited to share their experience. Local press and tv channels transmitted the news and helped raise awareness of the golden fiber amazing potential among the general public !
